The short version
  • Paired: daily questions, quizzes and relationship exercises.
  • Between: a private chat for two, with a shared calendar and memories.
  • Lovewick: question card games, date ideas and a little journal.
  • Toffee & Bao: feeling close without typing, through hugs, moods and heartbeats.

First, our bias

We make Toffee & Bao, so we're not neutral. We've tried to describe the other apps fairly, based on their own app store listings and websites in October 2026. Features and prices change, so check each app's store page before you choose.

What to look for in a couples app

  • What do you want more of? Talking, planning, playing or feeling close? Each app leans a different way.
  • Is it private? A couples app should be for the two of you, with no public feed.
  • Does it work on both your phones? Check that you can both install it before you get attached.
  • Is it free to start? And what does the paid plan add? Does one subscription cover you both?
  • Will you actually open it? The best app is the one that fits into your day.

Paired

Paired is built around daily questions, quizzes and games, plus relationship exercises. You each answer the day's question, and you see your partner's answer once you've both replied. A premium plan opens up the full library of activities.

Best for: couples who want structured conversations and to work on their relationship together.

Between

Between is a private messenger for just the two of you. Alongside the chat, it has a shared calendar that counts down to your special days, and a memory box for photos, videos and notes.

Best for: couples who want one private place to chat and keep track of dates and anniversaries.

Lovewick

Lovewick is a couples question game with card decks on topics like values, money and family, plus a library of date ideas and a mini journal. You can also save the little things, like their coffee order or shoe size.

Best for: couples who love question games and want help planning dates.

Toffee & Bao

Toffee & Bao is about feeling close without having to find the right words. Hold a button to send a hug they feel as a buzz, shake your phone to share a mood, tap a heart so they feel your heartbeat live, and keep a shared memory wall. There's a daily question too, a little plant you grow together, and Date Mode for phones-down time.

Best for: couples who spend parts of the day apart (work, shifts, trips or long distance) and want small, playful ways to stay close.

Good to know: Toffee & Bao is launching on Android first. It's free to start, and one Plus subscription covers you both.

Why we made Toffee & Bao

Most couples apps help you talk. We wanted one that helps you feel each other, even in the moments you can't talk: in a meeting, on a night shift, at 3 am in another time zone. That's why everything in Toffee & Bao is a tap, a hold or a shake. More on that in how to feel close when you can't be together.

Quick answers

What is the best app for couples?

It depends on what you want more of. For deep conversations, Paired. For a private chat and a shared calendar, Between. For question games and date ideas, Lovewick. For feeling close through touch and small gestures when you're apart, Toffee & Bao.

What is a good alternative to Paired?

If you like Paired's daily questions but want something more playful, Toffee & Bao has a daily question plus hugs, moods and heartbeats you can feel. Lovewick is another option if you enjoy question games.

What are the best apps for long distance relationships?

Look for apps that help you feel present, not just talk. Toffee & Bao's hugs and heartbeats buzz on your partner's phone wherever they are, and Between's shared calendar helps you count down to your next visit.
